Each of these and additional processes are examined and exemplified for students of English to develop their awareness. Beyond this common process is the discussion of other word formation processes such as coinage, compounding, backformation, borrowing and conversion. The chapter later elaborates on word formation through derivation, which is by far the most common word formation process in the creation of new English words.
